My full name is Scott Matthew Misturini, but you can call me Scott Matthew for short. I’m a freelance lifestyle and motorsports photographer with an obsession for photographing anything that’s old, fast, and leaks oil.
In my late teens and early twenties, I worked as a photo intern at a local weekly paper. Around that time I bought my first bike, a 1971 BMW R50/5. It was in rough shape and despite having almost no mechanical experience, I was determined to rebuild it.
I spent an entire summer piecing it back together and I’ll never forget my first ride. The carbs weren’t tuned, the headlight was held on with electrical tape, and I definitely did not have a license. But I put on a helmet, grabbed the throttle, and took off down the street. I was hooked
After college, my obsession with motorcycles pulled me away from photojournalism and into fabrication. I eventually found myself working as a machinist in a custom motorcycle shop. Somewhere along the way I picked up the camera again to create content for the shop’s social media. That is when I realized I could combine my love for photography and motorcycles.
Today I create imagery for a variety of fabrication companies including welding shops, sign makers, and blacksmiths.
On a personal level:
I think on paper I sound like a total “bad boy”. I have tattoos, I was a machinist, I wrench on old bikes, and I’m an avid rock climber. But the real truth is I’m just a nerd who loves mechanics, I hate needles, and I’m terrified of heights.
I grew up watching a lot of movies and I like to incorporate a cinematic element into my shooting, which I think naturally is more documentarian due to my photojournalism background.
